SkyNetHosting.Net 1 year review

by Admin

Simply said WOW! I’ll give them a 9/10.

I started with skynethosting a year ago, with a US reseller plan. What made me choose skynethosting was that Steve from skynethosting answered 15 or more questions that I had, even before I was even a customer. I was scared to death that my first reseller account would be negative experinace, but I have been proven wrong.

Any problem that I have is usually resolved on the forum www.skynethostingtalk.com or through the help desk. If I have a problem, I can expect a prompt reply to my emails. The other great thing about skynethosting.net is that employees are great. Time and time again, I have gone to them on the forum for feedack on my site, and they give it! I am on the $9.95 reseller plan, all that for a $9.95 reseller plan. It has worked well, and I plan on upgrading soon.

The best part is there is a 30 day trial so I had nothing to lose in the first place.

Skynethosting.net review - 2006-2007

by Admin

In February 2006 I moved my sites to Skynethosting.net. choosing the Sky-2000 package. It was 1 month free, with a discount if I wanted to skip the free month and start the paid hosting sooner. I took the offer and after 3 days of free hosting I paid for the first month.

The support:

The support tickets receive answers somewhere between 2 minutes - 9 hours. I received answers to my questions and my problem were fixed in short time and that’s why I think that the support department is not outsourced, they have their own support staff. This might be not very accurate, I contacted support for 2 or 3 times only.

Problems:

Until now I had just an email problem at one point. One account just froze up, and after I contacted support it was working again in 30 mins.

The server I am on looks a little bit crowded, and sometime the loading goes up to 5 in spikes, but somehow even with this load my scripts and the mail service are still fast, only Cpanel is loading slowly.

Downtime: I monitor my websites and until now I had only 2 downtimes, the first was about 1 hour and the last one 30 minutes.

My ratings:

Reliability: 9/10
Ticket support: 8/10
Pricing: 9/10
Overall: 9/10
Recommended: Yes

A Hosting Nightmare

by Admin

Where do I begin? I guess it all started in a project meeting for our marketing class. Paul mentioned he got a great deal with Dreamhost.com. I could go on with all the great features, but what sold me was my friend and colleague had faith in Dreamhost. Nothing could go wrong right?

Since most the students at Seneca had Dreamhost we all started to share our problems. Some of the stories at Dreamhost:

My mx records for my email were somehow corrupted when I added a subdomain.
It only took 12 hours to get a response and fix.
Then we noticed our pages would take 10-15 seconds to load??
Paul’s wiki page would timeout/crash .. several times?

It was apparent these problems weren’t going away, so I started to look elsewhere. Skynethosting.net!!! Sounds like the robotics/engineering company from The Terminator 2 - Judgment day!!! Maybe that should of been a hint to me. Anyways, they have a free 30 day trial without any prepayment, so I got an account. I must say it was better than Dreamhost in terms of performance, but lacked the overselling features from Dreamhost. At this point I tried avoiding overselling plans. I just want some reliable, and SkyNetHosting.Net seemed to be the one. I ended up canceling the account because Dreamhost seemed to become more stable after our complaints.

After another week or two the problems at Dreamhost kept on coming. It became obvious when Tom was presenting his marketing final project to the class, and his website seemed to take a nap. It wasn’t hard to figure out he was also with Dreamhost.

I took it upon my self to find another hosting. During my web host hunting I found SkyNetHosting.Net again, but this time they offered free JSP service. Wow, how could I lose?? It seems Skynethosting’s JSP servers were full, but they managed to squeeze me in there. After canceling my account with Dreamhost, I started to move my resources over to SkyNetHosting.Net I must of taken too much over from Dreamhost. Using only 3/1000 megs I noticed the server would go online and offline every now and then. It seems the server’s partition was 100% full. After complaining a bit and getting nowhere after 24 hours, I happened to find ImHosted.com.

…So far, ImHosted.com has been great. Its fast, reliable, and has JSP support. A little more expensive than the others, but for $15/month it seems worth it. If everything in the next few days/weeks goes well I’m moving again. Hopefully for good. They seem very restrictive so far, but I’m hoping thats not a bad thing. I had to give them photo ID and a reason why I need SSH. As long they aren’t paranoid with their hosting that I can’t even get SSH access, I think this is my new home.

What I learned from this experience. My sister put it best …”Finding a good hosting is like finding a good man”. We are a rare breed.

Unfortunately, the story doesn’t end. ImHosted.com turned out to be paranoid. I got the SSH access, but restricted to one IP. Okay not a big deal, I can live with it. When I wanted a second account to host my other domain they said it was impossible. Odd how Sky Net Hosting can do it. Anyways, I just got sick of all the restrictions of ImHosted.com. I want to manage multiple hostings with multiple accounts.

I want SSH access anywhere. They’re services are great for businesses, but I am a developer and I want full control. So, I’m sticking with SkyNet. They moved my accounts around, so this website is not on the server with a full hard drive. My other account is still on the JSP server, because I’ve noticed the stability has improved. Other than that bad experience a few weeks ago, SkyNet is probably the best for the price they offer.

Still shopping for a web hosting provider makes you consider just hosting yourself. Maybe it will come down it that one day… lol.

SkyNetHosting.Net - Best hosting I’ve ever had….

by Admin

I’ve made my first website on professional hosting four years ago, and since then I went through four web hosting companies. And after awesome service I’ve received today on SkyNet Hosting I wanted to voice a few thoughts on choosing web hosting based on my personal experience.

Budget web hosing is a very competitive business, and its very hard for companies to survive. The first company I hosted with wen out of business a year after I signed up. Second one appeared great in the beginning – they’ve had awesome tech support. But several months later they started to have up-time problems, the site was down for days, support disappeared, no phone or email replies. I even lost three month payments after I moved from them, as they did not stopped charging my card. After that I’ve decided to get two hosting plans from different companies, so I can analyze their performance and move my site fast if I had a major issue – in this case I would move it to the hosting I already know. First hosting I’ve got was Totalchoicehosting.com, and second one was SkyNet Hosting. I moved my site to Total Choice and was very happy with them for a while, as my site was finally up 100% of the time! But two month later my site was shut down by their admin. Why? Because error log of one of my scrips reach 20mb, and they thought it was a threat to server’s stability. I thought that my script is really causing serious issues and felt bad.. until I found out that the error log was full of warnings my script was generating. I forgot to turn warnings off before uploading. This was no threat to the system’s stability, but they didn’t care, they just shut the site down.  I fixed the script issues and they started the site back up, but taking back and fourth with them I’ve learned how technically illiterate their Support is, and how little they care. They also give very little for your money – this, according to them, is a price for solid server uptimes.

But then there’s SkyNet Hosting. I’ve been with them for a year now and I haven’t seen my site down yet. They also have very competitive hosting plans, no setup fees, no contracts. In order to survive, many companies provide unbelievable deals – 300Gb space, unlimited traffic, etc. for five dollars. This often means they’re overselling and will have issues with uptime because people get their hosting to host huge files, such as videos, and since this is shared hosting, shared with your site – this will affect your site performance. But with SkyNet you get very balanced tech/price deal, which should keep file-sharers and spammers away, keeping only serious websites, which will ensure solid uptime while giving you all necessary tools for creating and running successful website. Until today I haven’t had a need to talk to their support, but after a short chat not only I’ve get all my questions answered, but I also got free upgrade on my account to current offerings for the same money! I totally did not expect that! These guys are great : )

I’ll recommend SkyNet for anyone looking to move their website to reliable hosing and for those looking for home of their first website.

Anyone know anything about SkyNetHosting.Net?

by Admin

I ran across this host tonight while doing a google search. I searched WHT forums and there is no mention of this company anywhere but the WHOIS shows them dating back to 2004. They offer FREE 30 Day Trial Period without having to put in a credit card number, their prices are too low, but overall a great website.  Read more…

[Review] SkyNetHosting.Net - 1 Month

by Admin

Hello,

I saw their message on advertisment section and try them. My package is VIP plan.

First of all i open my new site with them. When i learn they are giving 10 seperate cpanel acconuts i move one of my sites to them.

My 2 web sites are big and important sites. But i can surely confirm that their servers are not heavyly loaded and very stable because my visitors are very happy with the performances of the sites.

I have 2 support issues and open support tickets. Here is the details:

Me: Posted on 22 Sep 2006 04:37 PM
SkyNet: Posted on 22 Sep 2006 05:52 PM

Other one:

Me: Posted on 13 Sep 2006 04:09 PM
SkyNet: Posted on 13 Sep 2006 04:22 PM

I think SkyNet Hosting Support is fast enough And they can understand my tickets and replies are clear.

Servers are dual xeon so their cpu share is very good. My sites are working with no errors.

They have a good and active support forum. And they are support site is also Kayoke which is excellent.

The only bad thing i think, skynethosting is not accepting paypal and they are using 2co and i dont like the interface of 2co. For example today i must renew my order and my credit card denied and i try to update my card details and put a different card but i am not sure i can achive this I think they need to buy a billing system which is user friend and working with paypal and 2co.

No downtime no problem on servers about 1 month

I will update my message after 2 months

Now i can recommend skynethosting.net to you.

I’ved decided to go with skynethosting.net

by Admin

Hello all!

Well, many of you have given me a lot of help in researching hosting companies, so I thought it only fair that I should let you know how the story ends (for now, at least). I was looking for a hosting company that would allow adult material, and by “adult” I mean “US legal adult/pornographic”, such as you might find in Playboy or Hustler. To anyone looking for the same, be sure to read the TOS/AUP of your potential host carefully (that’s good advice even for non-adult hosting!). There are lots of great companies out there that just weren’t a match for my particular needs.

Anyhow, I’m going to sign up with skynethosting.net. If anyone is interested, I can post back here in a few months and let you know how it’s going. I plan on using WHT in the future, so I would love to contribute where needed/wanted.

Thanks again for all the help!

Quick review of SkyNetHosting.Net

by Admin

I recently posted a thread entitled “hosting novice needs advice” and subsequently decided on a reseller account for the extra bandwidth and disc space - not to resell.

After looking at the many excellent hosting deals promoted on this site I finally decided to go with SkyNet Hosting and I am so glad I did.

Although my site is still under construction and has not been uploaded to my SkyNetHosting server yet, the support I have received so far has been first class.

I had some difficulty in changing my DNS and Jessica even did it for me, since then they have answered many queries that I had and always dealt with them promptly. I hope the excellent service continues once my site is up and running.

In the mean time well done Jessica and SkyNetHosting.Net It is good to see a company living up to its promises of good service.
